Aristotle rejected Plato's separate Forms in favour of hylomorphism — form is always immanent in matter. He created the first systematic empirical philosophy, establishing logic, ethics, politics, and natural science as distinct disciplines. His work became the intellectual backbone of medieval scholasticism.
